Carboxytherapy
Studies have shown that carboxytherapy improves skin elasticity, enhances circulation, and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It stimulates collagen activity to support tissue repair and may also help break down localized fat deposits.
Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is a naturally occurring component of the human body. There are no known risks associated with carboxytherapy. Carboxytherapy is used to treat under-eye dark circles and stretch marks, reduce cellulite, and provide non-surgical body and facial contouring.
Where is Carboxytherapy applied?
Carboxytherapy is used in many aesthetic dermatology indications, such as:
Stretch marks (striae gravidarum), Periorbital area – dark circles, Skin rejuvenation – facial wrinkles, Décolleté, Scar healing and scar revision, Skin with reduced elasticity / loss of firmness, Body contouring (pre- and post-procedural), Localized adiposity – lipolysis, Cellulite and skin laxity, Hair loss (alopecia), Vaginal rejuvenation.
In addition, carboxytherapy is also applied in clinical indications, such as:
Psoriasis, Improvement of microcirculation – acrocyanosis, Increased tissue oxygenation and enhanced delivery of lipolytic agents to adipose and superficial tissues, Migraines and myofascial pain, Tinnitus.
How many sessions are needed to see results?
Typically, 2 to 3 sessions per week are recommended, depending on the patient’s skin condition. Less frequent treatments do not reduce efficacy, but may delay the desired results.
How long does a carboxytherapy session take?
Face: 10–20 minutes, Body: 20–40 minutes.
How long do the results last?
Results may last approximately two years, although this depends largely on the individual patient, including metabolic factors as well as lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise frequency.
What sensation is expected during treatment?
Carboxytherapy is not painful, though mild discomfort may be felt for a few minutes. Sensation varies by area and technique (e.g., eyelids, stretch marks, scars, fat). Eyelids: a temporary swelling sensation, usually resolving within 5–10 minutes.
Stretch marks / scars: minimal to no discomfort due to reduced sensation; a feeling of pressure or mild itching may occur and resolves within 5–10 minutes. Cellulite / localized fat (arms, abdomen, legs): a pressure sensation similar to a blood pressure cuff, because a larger volume of gas is injected into the adipose tissue and expands.
Treated areas may feel warm with mild tingling for up to 24 hours after the session, reflecting improved local circulation. Patients can return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
Are there any side effects?
No. CO₂ is produced naturally by the body’s cells every day as a byproduct of metabolism. It is carried in the bloodstream and exhaled through the lungs. The only possible side effect is bruising (ecchymosis) at the injection site.
